Po dvou měsících v Minas Gerais jsem směřoval k místu kde jsem věřil, že najdu něco novýho (a já twl budu slavné !). Ten flek jsem si vytipoval i na radu Rudolfa Schultze, autora (spolu s Machadem) monografie Uebelmannia and their evironment. Toto je základní bifla a téměř Uebelmannia bibla ....Pokud do oblasti Diamantina a pohoří Serra do Espinhaco chcete jet, doporučuju ten matroš nastudovat. Takže zpět k mé cestě na horském kole, které bylo často nejlepší dopravní prostředek . Sice když vás viděli benga, hned jste v Brasil suspeito, protože na kole jezdí přece jen vagabundos. Todle néni žádné fórek. Takhle to ty hovada policajtský maj. Slušní lidi přece jezdí autem... A to nemluvě o řidičích kamionů, kteří vás div nesestřelí z cesty. Nešlo mě do hlavy, proč těch pár vagabundos jezdí vlevo, než mi došel ten důvod: aby přežili ! A současně proti kamionům ještě sjížděli z cesty. Já na tuto hru nepřistoupil a vytrvale jsem na asfaltkách bojoval vpravo. Jel sem pomalu jak ten megašnek na fotkách, ale měl sem čas. Tři měsíce v Brasil svobodně sám se svýma oblíbenýma kytkama. U cedule Curimataí jsem byl přesvědčen, i výrazem rypáku, TADY NAJDU NĚCO NOVÝHO ! A taky že jo ! Klasickej plán: odejít do hospody, vožrat se s místníma, zjišťovat info a zkusit štěstí s průvodou. Tím byl šikovnej klučina s místní přezdívkou Macacínho, kterou ho častovali kámoši (a za pár dní i moji kamoši). Jo a ještě jedna věc. V Brasil použijete angličtinu tak akorát na letišti (i to bývá problém). Takže nastudujte si Brasil Portuguese (případně Portugnol = mix portugalštiny a španělštiny). Na mé první cestě jsem komunikoval španělsky s brazilskou výslovností a docela rozuměli, ti co chtěli. Teda mladí chtěj, staří na vás serou. Musíte mít perfektní výslovnost jinak vás jebou. Po třech metrech vejletu vím, o čem mluvím.. Ale když zte furt s lidma a večer čumíte na bednu, za čtvrt járu se zlepší každej. Když chce a má motiv. A já ho měl a v Brasil stále mám, borci a kozénky. Takže x hodin cesty s gájdem, pak vidíte kytky, co nečekáte. Jednu chvíli jste střízlivej a za vteřinu pocit, jak po pěti pifkách . Nova planta !!! Pak hodiny sestupu do vesnice, večer festa do tří do rána s místníma a druhej den jet 3 hodiny "na signál" na kole poslat sms Radkovi Řepkovi (frajerovi, co odmakal popis nový variety s ňákým Krajčou a Tomanem).
No a v druhé části článku sou fotky po třech letech s Vénou, a co vidíte? Moc ty kytky nepoporostly...

After two months in Minas Gerais, I was heading to a place where I believed I would find something new (and damn, I´m going to be a famous !). I picked this spot also on advice of Rudolf Schultz, the autor (together with Marlon Machado) of the monograph "Uebelmannia and their evironment". This is the basic book and almost a Uebelmannia bible...If you wanna to visit the Diamantina region and the Serra do Espinhaco mountains, I recommend studying that material.
So back to my yourney on a mountain bike, which was often the best means of transportation. Although when the cops saw you, you were immediately suspicious in Brasil, because after all, only vagabonds ride bikes (...). This is no joke ! That´s how those damn cops have it. Decent people, after all, drive cars... Not to mention the truck brasilian drivers who almost run you off the road! I couldn´t understand why that few vagabonds drove on the left, until I found the reason: to survive ! And at the same time, they even moved out off the way of trucks. I didn´t play that game and stubbornly kept to the right on the asphalt roads.
I was driving slowly like that giant snail in the pics, but I had time. Three months in Brasil free, alone with my favourite plants. At the Curimataí sign, I was convinced, even by the expression on my shout, THAT I WOULD FIND SOMETHING NEW HERE !
Oh, definitely ! The classic plan: go to a bar, get drunk with the locals, gather some infos, and try your luck with a guide. The guide was a clever guy with the local nickname Macacínho, which his friends called him (and few days later, my friends too). Oh, and one more thing. In Brasil, you´ll pretty much only use English at the airport (and even that could be tricky...). Well, study Brasilian Portuquese (or Portunhol = a mix of Portuquese and Spanish). On my first trip, I communicated in Spanish with a Brasilian pronunciation, and people who wanted to understand me, did. So young people want to, older ones don´t care. You have to have perfect pronunciation, otherwise, they mess with you ! After three months of traveling, I know what I´m talking about. But when you´re constantly with people and in the evening you watch TV (if there´s a hotel and TV ..), everyone improves a bit in a short time. If they want and are motivated. And I was very motivated, cacti-boys and cacti-girls.
Well, many hours of travel uphill with the guide, than you see plants you don´t expect !!! One moment you´re sober and the next second you feel you´ve had five beers. A new plant !!! Satisfaction, beauty !!! Then hours of descending into the village. partying with the locals (Saturday festa and dancing with Brasilian girls, wow ...). I was ending at three a.m., may be I remember... The next day: ride for three hours "on signal" by mountain bike, send Radek Řepka (profesional botanic who worked on describing the variety with me and Václav Toman): GOT IT ! Then back three hours and another Sunday festa time...
Well, you can see in the second part pics with Václav and plants. After three years, and what do you see? The plants haven´t grown much...
That´s all, I blew up badly on 2.2.2026., almost twenty years after ...
